1. Eligibility Requirements:
Be at least 17 years old.
Hold a Category 3 or 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
Be able to read, speak, and understand English or French.
2. Ground School:
Enroll in a Transport Canada-approved ground school or study independently.
Complete a minimum of 40 hours of ground school instruction covering subjects like air law, meteorology, navigation, and aeronautics.
3. Radio Operator Certificate (ROC-A):
Obtain a Radio Operator Certificate (ROC-A) by passing the written exam. This is a prerequisite for the Private Pilot License.
4 Written Exam:
Pass the Transport Canada Private Pilot License written exam (PPAER). The exam covers theoretical knowledge acquired during ground school.
5. Solo Flight:
Complete a minimum of 12 hours of solo flight time, including a cross-country flight of at least 100 nautical miles with landings at two different airports.
6. Flight Training:
Complete a minimum of 45 hours of total flight time, including the 20 hours of dual instruction.
This must include a minimum of 17 hours of dual instruction, 12 hours of solo flight time, and 5 hours of instrument time.
7. Night Rating (Optional):
If planning to fly at night, complete a minimum of 10 hours of night flight time, including a minimum of 5 hours of dual instruction and 5 hours of solo flight time.
8. Flight Test:
Pass the Transport Canada Private Pilot License flight test (check-ride) with a qualified Transport Canada Designated Flight Test Examiner.
9. Submit Application:
Complete and submit the Transport Canada Private Pilot License application form along with the required documentation.
10. Licensing Fee:
Pay the applicable licensing fee to Transport Canada.
